The Entire United States of America tuned into news stations on Tuesday to watch the results of the country’s historic presidential election between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump officially won the election with a final electoral college count of 295-226, with the final two states still finishing up the counts. The Electoral College gives out electoral votes until one of the candidates reaches 270 votes.
The election of 2024 had six states that were classified as “Swing States” that were going to decide the results of the election this year. These states were Georgia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada, and Arizona. The swing states in the past elections have been the deciding factor for the presidency.
The other 43 states had been decided pre-election by the polls and recent history. So, these seven states are what ultimately led to Trump winning the 2024 Election and becoming the 47th president of the United States.
Trump was able to flip and gain all these swing states, which is what changed the results of this election compared to the 2020 election.
He first flipped Georgia and Pennsylvania and later won the Blue Wall, which consisted of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, which is what ultimately won him the election.
Votes are still being counted in Nevada and Arizona, where Trump is currently on top, but the results of these states will not change the overall results.
He was able to make history by becoming the second president to win two non-consecutive presidential terms, which has only been done by Grover Cleveland in 1885-89 and 1893-97.
Along with this 2024 was the first year the Republicans have won the popular vote since 2004, when George W. Bush did so. Republicans will also now have control of the Senate, and the Presidency, while the House of Representatives is still up in the air.
This will be the last term for President Trump, so in four years we will see a new candidate from the Republicans and possibly the Democratic party.
