Valencia Flooded

On Tuesday October 29, in Valencia, Spain, there was a storm that flooded Valencia and towns nearby.

This type of storm in Spain is called gota fria or DANA which stands for Depresión Aislada en Niveles Altos which means Isolated Depression at High Levels. This happened because the weather in Valencia was warm but a cold front came from the north causing DANA.

In one day it rained the amount of months. Valencia flooded from highways to the subway. The subways are completely filled with water that  you can see it on the stairs to go down to the subway. The city and surrounding towns had canceled school in prediction of this storm but they were not expecting it to be so bad.

This rain came all of sudden and very fast and hard. This was the worst gota fria since 1956 according to my parents.

My grandparents, uncles, and aunts all live in Valencia or in towns nearby and they have been sending videos, pictures and stories of the horror that is happening. The Ikea in Valencia sheltered many people because the water had flooded the parking lot along with the first few floors. The good news was that they had beds and bathrooms. Many people watched as a bridge collapsed by the rush of water that came down the river.

So far they have found 90 dead and many more missing. Today they found some of the missing people but tomorrow they expect to find more. My aunt told us that she was sent a picture of a body floating in the water. We have also heard from friends that they could not find their parents. This morning they found them dead.

This is a horrible natural disaster that is happening in Valencia. It has left the city in destruction with debris everywhere and bridges and highways collapsed.
