The high school Poms competition season kicked off this past weekend at the Denver Convention Center. The UDA competition had originally been at the Denver Western Complex but was moved to the Convention Center this year. The Holy Family Poms team were the 2023 Regional Champions in the Pom Division. This division had more than 20 teams. This competition season there are some new changes with UDA.
Some changes UDA has made is taking away the medium choice for teams. There is now only small and large. Small consists of 5-14 and large is 15-40. They also added school divisions. DI and DII will be based on school enrollments of 9th – 12th grades as of October 1, 2024. Schools will submit an official letter signed and verified from your registrar’s office. The enrollment size at that time will determine the division a team competes in.
This past weekend the Holy Family Poms competed in Hip Hop, Pom, and Game day. Hip Hop competed first against 3 other teams. Top three teams is 1st place Holy Family with a score of 83.9, 2nd place Highlands Ranch with a score of 80.7, and 3rd place University with a score of 75.1. Next was Pom, this division had seven teams. The top three teams is 1st place Valor with a score of 87.2, 2nd place Roosevelt with a score of 86.7, and 3rd place Holy Family with a score of 85.5. Last was Game day with a total of 5 teams. Top three teams are 1st place Valor with a score of 87.5, 2nd place Holy Family with a score of 87.0, and 3rd place Roosevelt 86.9.
Holy Family has a total of eight competitions left. The next competition is on November 2nd, USA at ThunderRidge High School. The Poms team looks forward to this competition season. They put hard work in and out of practice and is coming into this competition season hungry.
