Give me some more Dance Moms

If you have never heard of the hit T.V show “Dance Moms” you’re really missing out.

Based in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania the show aired on the Lifetime channel, and started airing on July 13th, 2011. At the start, it was introduced as a show that would include the lives of young girls and their journey with dancing for Abby Lee Miller. Abby Lee Miller (the coach)  is a name that a lot of people know today, thanks to her star role in dance moms.

When the first episode aired, the girls known as Maddie Ziegler, Mackenzie Ziegler, Kendall Vertes, Nia Sioux and more were the stars of the cast as well.

All these girls were the same age, nearing around 8,9, and 10. At the start of the show, it seemed pretty tame and innocent. Just a show about these girls travelling and competing in competitions as a team. However, the more episodes that came out the crazier the show began to be.

In almost every episode there was guaranteed an argument/fight with a mom, a student, or  an issue at a competition. These fights became even physical multiple times, while being recorded at the same time. This part of the show is what brought in the rapid amount of viewers and attention the show had.

While it’s entertaining to watch and keep track of, it resulted in many losses for the girls and even their parents.  At a young age, the girls were constantly being filmed and told to say certain things to make the show more popular. In podcasts and interviews the previous stars of Dance Moms shared their experiences with trauma, exploitation and many other anxieties.

Today, Dance Moms is no longer a show. The peak of Dance Moms was about 2013-2015. Ending in 2015, after the coach, Abby Lee miller was arrested for bankruptcy fraud, leaving a sudden tragic ending to the show. Abby Lee also got cancer and became paralyzed, leaving for more views on the show. Abby came back and continued shooting Dance Moms with a brand new cast, after her leave from jail.

 I remember watching as a younger girl, always loving every episode. It is still a show me and my friends will watch today and I highly recommend you take some time to watch.
