The New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh was shockingly fired last Tuesday after a loss to the Vikings 23-17. This was a shock to the entire sports world and many have made comments about it.
The Jets had security escort Robert Saleh out of the building after meeting with the owner Woody Johnson. The interim head coach is the defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich. Some people believe that quarterback Aaron Rodgers had Coach Saleh fired, but nothing has been proven.
Saleh signed a 5-year contract at the start of 2021, and as head coach the Jets went 4-13 in 2021, 2-14 in 2022, 4-13 in 2023, and started 2-3 in 2024. In 2023 the Jets had high hopes with the draft class and Rodgers coming from Green Bay, but when Rodgers got hurt in the first game of the season the hype was crushed.
So after three back-to-back bad losing seasons Johnson had had enough. But after starting 2-3 and Rodgers back the team seemed to have some life and losing close games just is a shock.
Saleh came in with a defensive minded route and discipline. Through the years Saleh showed his smarts on the defensive side and proved he is one of the best defensive coaches in the league. But the offensive side lacked and resulted in losing games.
Saleh came from being a defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, and reports say that he will go back out there to be a defensive coordinator when the next hiring cycle comes.
As of right now the top landing spots for Coach Saleh is in Jacksonville for the head coaching spot or the defensive coordinator for the Eagles or 49ers. But this is just the top chances and most likely spots. Depending on how the rest of the season goes these results can change.
Saleh’s former team plays against the Bills on Monday night football, so we will get to see the first look of the Jets with Jeff Ulrich calling the shots.
