Hurricane Helene devastated six southeast states, mainly hitting Florida and the Carolinas.
Helene is a Category 4 hurricane, and it started about Thursday of last week. Many communities in North Carolina and Florida are completely covered in water, and nearby buildings and landmarks are being destroyed. This hurricane has taken the lives of about 160 people since it’s started.
Many families are dealing with power outages, food and water shortages, and the devastating loss of pets and personal belongings.
News outlets are sharing first hand accounts of the hurricane and how it’s effecting those in the area. A couple living in Bat Cave, North Carolina shares their experiences so far. “That’s all we were worried about at the moment, is saving our animals. And we were looking around at things, and that’s when I really realized that none of what we own matters right now. And our lives, their lives, our cats’ lives, that’s all we have,”. Luckily, they were air-liffted to safety. However, on the other hand, their home was destroyed and they must deal with the aftermath of this storm.
Floridians are facing similar difficulties, with property being ruined and communities and towns flooded, some partially and some completely.
Luckily, the technology we have allows for more warning and preparation before a storm like this hits land. Members of these towns prepare by boarding up the windows of their homes, making sure they have enough food and water, and even sometimes leaving completely.
The most recent news has to do with the death toll rising, hundreds of closed roads, and continued destruction of landmarks and to some people, everything they have. Some people, unfortunately, are still missing in the ruins of this mess, and family members are desperatly trying to reconnect. In times like these we should pray for those effected, and that they are granted peace.
