Golf gets ready for Regionals

The Holy Family golf team finished up their regular season yesterday with the Holy Family Bobble Head Invite.  Yesterday was the last tournament of the year for most of the team which brought closure for all but four going to regionals for the golf team.

This year Holy Family is sending four players to regionals on Tuesday, October 1st  up in Fort Morgan.  Joe Lucas,  Tyler Federspiel, Bobby Flaherty, and Noah Weil are looking to try to qualify for the 3A State Championship on Tuesday. Qualifiers belong to the top 21 players from each region which consist of the top two teams in the region and the next 13 separate individuals.

This year Regionals is being hosted by Fort Morgan High School at Quail Dunes Golf Course. The course has a very difficult layout with lots of high-risk, high-reward shots which allows for many different ways to play the course. The course is overall pretty short with wide fairways and drivable greens throughout the course. The greens in Fort Morgan are very small making it difficult and important to be precise on your shots into the green. The extreme difficulty comes if you are sporadic with your shots, the fairways and greens are all lined with water hazards and native grass.  The native grass makes it tough if you miss any of your shots because the recovery is tough and will often lead to tough scores. Overall the course is a good mix of hard holes and easy holes which will allow for anything to happen.

The team is going to be preparing for the rest of the week to be at the top of their game for the challenge that Quail Dunes provides. The biggest challenge these four are taking on is their lack of experience they have going into regionals, but they have been preparing all season and are looking to peak at this part of the year.
