Have you ever wondered how parrots can “speak” and understand human language?
Of all the animals on earth, only two species can speak. One of which is human and the other is a bird.
Biologically, parrots mainly mimic their owners or other birds, instead of speaking genuine English or any other language. That said, parrots can still understand hundreds of words and sentences and even go as far as to understand what the word means. Parrots can do this because they have an organ called the syrinx which reproduces, allowing them to talk, mimic, and shout.
With this being said, it can be assumed just how smart parrots are. Parrots are the smartest bird species, and they were gifted with certain cognitive
abilities that make them this way. In similar ways, other animals have the same thing: including whales, seals, and other birds.
These birds have become much more involved with human life over time. A parrot found in the wild may not have the same intelligence as one that lives with a human, as humans dedicate their time and effort to training their animals. However, parrots in the wild have their own language and that consists of imitating and speaking with each other using sounds and words.
These birds have much more to them than just being able to make certain sounds. Not only do they have an interesting amount of intelligence, but they also have extremely long life spans ranging from 40-60 years. Many scientists believe that parrots are the closest birds to humans, and they will help us on the road to intelligence.
Birds of all sorts are a big part of human entertainment. Many people have parrots as pets. If you’re infatuated with animals, there are always bird shows or festivals to attend, either to speculate or have your own bird in the competition.
