WNBA vs NBA wage gap

In today’s sports world many people are wanting more pay for the WNBA players. The difference in pay is a very large gap. The debate is often said that the two should be getting paid the same amount of money.

On average a NBA player makes about 7.5 million dollars a year when the WNBA average in 128,000 a year. The NBA makes almost 60 times what the WNBA will make. Many people believe that this is a very unfair pay gap. In reality it is very fair gap.

The first example is the NBA attendance average which is about 17,760 people per game and for the women it is 6,535 people at each game. And on TV the average watches for the NBA is 2 million and the WNBA is only 246,000. This is the first thing that shows that the viewers are watching more NBA games then WNBA.

The annual NBA’s revenue is 7.92 billion dollars while the WNBA is only 60 million dollars. NBA players make about 10% of the leagues revenue while the WNBA players make about 20% of the leagues revenue. So given that if the women players want to have the same pay they would actually have to take a pay cut. Cutting about half of there salary that they are getting.

In the end the WNBA is actually loosing money every year. They do not have enough revenue to pay for all of there players and all the financial needs. Therefor they would be loosing even ore money if the WNBA players wanted to have more money. Therefor the WNBA players will never make as much as NBA players due to the money that they are brining in. And if they want to get paid the same they will need to take a pay cut which I am not sure that they will do that due to the fact they are wanting to get paid more.

With Caitlin Clark heading to the WNBA we are likely to see more of a revenue due to the fact that she generated more views for the women’s tournament then the men’s tournament this year. It will be very interesting to see how much money they will be to generated. Hopefully they will be able to make more money and be able to give the women what they want and get more pay.
