In the world of sports there have been many crazy stories as of late.
Shohei Ohtani and his attorneys have accused his long time interpreter and close fried of Shohei of massive theft. The stealing has been tied to some sports gambling shenanigans. Upper Mizuhara who was Ohtani’s translator for many years was no longer on the team, as they fired him. Her Brettler LLP, Ohtani attorneys, said this in a statement, “ In the course of responding to recent media inquiries, we discovered that Shohei has been the victim of a massive theft and we are turning the matter over to the authorities.” The stealing has ties to illegal gambling. There was wire transfers from Ohtani;s account worth at least 4.5 million, which was then paid o a bookmaking operation in Southern California which is under investigation. Mizuhara told ESPN that he had debts from betting on NBA, NFL, college football, and international soccer but never on baseball, which is prohibited by MLB rules.
“Obviously, he wasn’t happy about it and said that he would help me out to make sure that I never do this again, he decided to pay it off for me.”
It hen went on to say that Mizuhara then changed his story on Wednesday, stating that Ohtani did not have any knowledge of his gambling debts and Ohtani had not transferred money to the bookmakers.
