After just two seasons with the Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson was told by the team this week that they are releasing him. The NFL year begins on March 13 and that is when he will be officially released. In Wilsons two seasons with Denver he posted a record of 11-19. He threw for 6,594 yards, 42 touchdowns, 19 interceptions, and an average rating of 91.2. To say the least he did not get the job done while he was there.
The trade that sent him to the broncos may go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history as the Broncos gave up five picks, two first rounders, Drew Lock, Noah Fant, and one other player. When he arrived in Denver it seemed as the Broncos were set on him and the future of the team, signing him to a five year 242.6 million dollar contract. The contract did not age well, as the Broncos are now going to have 85 million dollars in dead money.
This came after Russell Wilson had said on the “I am Athlete” podcast that he hopes is future is in Denver with the Broncos. This move was expected by many people. Two weeks left into the season the Broncos were still in playoff contention when Russell was benched. He was benched because he was not cooperating into adjusting his injury guarantee of his contract.
There had been many frustration by fans during his stint with the Broncos. There was a video that surfaced when Russell Wilson was seen saying “Broncos Country! Let’s Ride!” Broncos fans were very often making fun of this. Referring to the ride as horrible rides.
Russell Wilson went on to post on his social media accounts a thank you to all the fans. He mentioned multiple things. He is excited for what is to come, though times don’t last though people do, and he did not in fact thank the Broncos head coach or GM.
Wherever Russell Wilson ends up next hopefully he is able to increase his game and lead his team.
