Nicki Minaj announced the dates she was going on tour on January 16th of this year. Her first date being December 14th of 2023 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta Georgia. While that was more of a pre-tour show, her concert officially started at Oakland California on the first of March. Her next stop being Denver Colorado, which was yesterday and I’m here to talk about my experience.
Yesterday, I went to the Nicki Minaj concert at the Ball Arena. Me and my sister left our house around 7:30. However, I was expecting a lot of traffic on i-25 but to my surprise it was very much empty, until we got to the Ball Arena. We went through security, everything as usual. The show started at 8 with the opening act being her DJ, which he played a wide variety of songs. The vide was very different than the other concerts I have been to. Everyone was vibing and having a good time, there were dance battles, people singing, and dancing.
Her intro was this long video on the stage and it was an animation of her arriving to Denver, which was cute and unique and it was so Nicki. The first song that she came out with singing was “I’m the best” which is from her first Pink Friday album. The crowd was going crazy, the energy was just so high it felt so nice to be in a crowd where everyone hyped each other up. Her setlist for this year’s tour had a wide range of old and new songs. Me personally I prefer her older songs, since I feel like it was her prime time.
However, something I didn’t really like about the concert in general was how many times she would disappearing to have her outfit change. Every four or five songs, she would go away for like 5 or 10 minutes to change. Which I do think it was a lot of wasted time, since there was no music that was playing while she was gone. It was just a awkward silence while there were animations playing on the screens. But I do think she’s a really good performer and definitely knows what she’s doing.
Half way through, her special guest Monica came out. She sang roughly five songs, which I do think is a good amount for a guest to sing. After that, Nicki Minaj came out and started to sing her older songs, which again I prefer a lot more than the songs on her new album. She sang her most played hits, like “Roman’s Revenge”, “Anaconda”, “Super Bass” all of those hits of the 2000s. Overall, it was a really good experience, and it was really fun to see one of my favorite artists sing in real life. All of the production and work that her team and the employees at Ball Arena did was really good, and made the concert go smoothly. I recommend going to one of her concerts in the future, whenever you get the chance.
