We all have different cultures and different habits that make us different from everyone else, but something that we do have in common is how addicted we are to our phones or to the social media. Our culture relies on two things which are art and entertainment, nowadays we see that people who are trying to become an artists, it usually feels like you are getting eaten alive by the entertainment industry. This includes the big comapnies like Disney, Warner Bros, Universal, etc. All of these big companies are going through a crisis which seems a little ironic since they are so popular and are worth so much money, yet they are losing so much money and employees.
Now you ask; what does this have to do with anything about phones and social media? Well why are the big companies losing everything? That’s because we are distracted, we get distracted especially with something we carry around in our pockets. We have grown so accostumed to that fact that we spend the majority of our days on our phones, scrolling. But why are we so addicted to our phones? What makes them so interesting and entertaining to the point we spend hours on end on it everyday.
Well, we love the fast pace of everything, how everything is so easy access that it gives us a stimulus boost. It’s gives us that “high” when we are scrolling and seeing how fast everything is. One of the most popular apps is TikTok, we is known for the short clips that we can see without spending really any time watching it. This famous app has also influenced so many other apps to turn into short films, Instagram added reels where the videos usually aren’t even a minute long, Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter have all converted thier base into something really accessible. Again, why do we love scrolling so much? And watching videos that aren’t even a minute long. That’s because we get this feeling of “climax” our body releases all of these happy hormones especially dopamine. We get addicted to that sensation, which is the ultimate goal for all of us. We aren’t really using drugs, but the way we seek for it, is what makes us really addicted. When listening to a symphony, our body naturally appeals to it, we are attracted by the melodies and the sounds, however they are usually three hours long, and in this modern time we aren’t patient enough to sit through it just toi get the feeling of “climax”.
That’s why we rely on the shorter songs, because we get it fast. Like I said addiction is the ultimate goal for all us, although it’s not really said but it’s more of the things they release to get us hooked. For example the Vision Pro that Apple recently released, it takes us to another “world”. We have become so easy at controlling especially when we see it as a trend. For take this to realize that it takes us to change the culture we are in, since we are the ones that got us into this problem.
