On Tuesday, January 23rd, beloved former Georgia Bulldog mascot Uga X peacefully died in his sleep. He was 10 years old. Known as “Que” to his owners and close friends of the Georgia football program, he follows a line of English Bulldogs owned by the Seiler family that dates back to 1955, and during his tenure he was the most decorated bulldog mascot in the school’s history, seeing an impressive 91-18 record across an eight year span.
Que’s term as Georgia’s mascot started on November 21, 2015, where he took over as Uga X. As his time as mascot, he witnessed some very exciting postseasons, including two national championships, two SEC titles, and seven New Year’s Six bowl appearances. Que retired as the official Georgia Bulldog in 2023, passing the torch to “Boom,” who has been living comfortably as Uga XI. Here are some exciting moments from Que’s time as mascot.
#3 – 2023 National Championship win over TCU
This game wasn’t anything special. Georgia destroyed TCU, winning in a 65-7 blowout, which gave them their second straight national championship. During this game, QB Stetson Bennett threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns, and Georgia’s offense finished with 589 yards, 32 first downs, and a total of nine touchdowns. TCU looked flat on both sides of the ball. QB Max Duggan threw four interceptions and only 152 yards, and it didn’t help that only one of his receivers broke 100 yards. Uga X was there to witness his Bulldogs get their fourth national championship, but everyone knew that this was going to be the result.
#2 – Bevo
On January 1st, 2019, the Georgia Bulldogs faced the Texas Longhorns in the Sugar Bowl. Before the game, both teams decided to come together and have their mascots meet each other, but it didn’t really end well. When Uga X got close to Bevo’s pen, Bevo charged the little man, scaring him and sending him back to Georgia’s sideline. This mishap was symbolic of the game as a whole, as Texas QB Sam Ehlinger was able to push past the Georgia defense and lead the Longhorns to a 28-21 victory. Although he escaped with no injuries, Uga X would have to look to the next year for a New Year’s Six win.
#1 – 2022 National Championship win over Alabama
This game was by far Que’s best moment as the Georgia Bulldog. Both Georgia and Alabama entered this game as highly ranked programs, and it was also a special to watch such a deep-rooted rivalry in the National Championship. Georgia QB Stetson Bennett threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns in this game, and the Georgia offense finished with 364 yards and 20 first downs. The game was close until the fourth quarter, where Georgia was able to pull away and score three touchdowns in the final eight minutes. The game was sealed after Bryce Young threw a pick with less than two minutes left, sealing Georgia’s first title since 1980. Although he had one more year as the mascot, this was for sure the peak of Uga X’s career.
Although he only lives on through our memories of him, Que will be remembered as a damn good dawg.
