After picking up a great win at the first home dual of the year, against Centaurus. The Tigers girls and boys wrestling teams are headed up to Greeley at the Island Grove Event Center to wrestle at one of the largest tournaments Colorado has to offer.
The Tournament is commonly known throughout the state as one of the best gauges for wrestlers before winter break. Many of the best Colorado based wrestlers and even multiple out of state teams will be attending. The tournament will most likely have about 70 teams and 750 total boys and girls wrestlers competing in this event.
With the competition so steep throughout this tournament it would be an incredible accomplishment just to make it to the second day. But for some of the tigers wrestlers the goal is far greater than that. Brayden Bach and Abram Moore are looking to make a statement at this tournament. Brayden had a tough tournament last year and did not end up placing while Abram came in second place losing in the finals. Going into the tournament tomorrow however both know they can do something special. According to On The Mat rankings Moore is currently ranked number one at his designated weight class for 3A while Bach is ranked number two at his.
Regardless of ranking and history though, these boys will not have it easy and have a long path ahead of them. With the vast number of teams and wrestlers comes more and more top tier competition consisting of many state placers and champions that the boys will have to face. It will definitely be fun to watch and see how the tournament plays out for these two boys.
Now for the rest of the team there are also lot’s of great wrestlers that could realistically have a huge impact and place regardless of the competition. The team does not have a great wrestler and two time state qualifier in Camden Austin for this tournament but many other wrestlers are stepping up and making a name for themselves this year. Leading this group are lightweights Kaden McCracken at the 106 pound weight class and Lorenzo Trujillo at the 113 pound spot. On the opposite end of the scale you have a big heavyweight in Landon Hood that has proven multiple times that when he is on his A-Game he is able to hang with just about anyone who is put in his way.
Although I have only highlighted a few boys on the team, every single wrestler is capable of what it takes to pull out wins and place at this tournament. Im excited to see how the team performs and get a good feel for the rest of what’s to come. If you are able and want to, come support the team! Wrestling begins at 9:00 A.M. on December 15th and the second day of competition will continue on into Saturday, December 16th. The event is being held at the Island Grove Event Center.
