Matt Rife is a 28 year old comedian, he was born on September 10 1995. He is known for his funny sense of humor and his charming looks. He grew up in Columbus, Ohio and discovered his love for comedy when he was about 14 years old. He quickly gained a following and by the time he was 15 he was recognized by the public for his self produced YouTube videos. He would talk about different topics in his videos and people would find a great laugh out of them. Some of his most famous include his “Only Fans” special posted in 2021, and later “Matthew Steven Rife” and “Walking Reg Flag” in 2023.
Along with his solo work he has also been involved in the comedy show “Wild N’ Out”. He has made multiple different appearances on this comedy film which has helped him gain popularity to the media. Sadly Matt lost his father, Micheal Eric Gutzke, at a very young age alongside his four siblings that he has mentioned a couple times. Matt is active on most social media platforms like Youtube, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok. He gained a lot of his popularity over the pandemic, specifically on TikTok. He continues to grow his platform by being active on the media. He even has comedy shows that get sold out pretty much every time. He is currently on tour that will turn over into the 2024 year. He calls it the “ProblaMATTic” tour. He will visit over 100 locations throughout North America, Europe, and Australia.
Matt’s quick claim to major fame makes it easy for him to get involved in scandals. In Matt’s recent comedy Netflix show “Natural Selection” he started the show with a joke involving domestic violence. In this joke he mentioned a restaurant hostess that had a black eye, implying that her cooking skills were related to the injury, making light of the situation. Many found this mention of potential domestic violence inappropriate and offensive to some people. The media quickly responded to this with criticism and state how they did not like the joke. Many say that this was taking it “too far”. This caused many accusations of sexism and insensitivity within all of his comedy show. This has caused a division between his audience outlining where peoples boundaries stand.
Although Matt was receiving lots of backlash from the public he remained unbothered by it. Shortly after the media blowup Matt posted a link to a video as his “official apology”, but the link actually led users to a website selling helmets for those with special needs. This was him trying to indicate that people need to stop being so sensitive and need to “get themselves a helmet”. Many people did not appreciate this reference. This caused lots of talk about the boundaries of comedy and the impact of the jokes on social media. This through the entertainment industry for a loop.
