Erie took on a tough Montrose team on Saturday. Erie was up 15-8 heading into the fourth quarter but Montrose was putting up a fight. Scoring two times in the fourth quarter. They went down on there final drive and senior Kansas State commit, Blake Barnett rushed into the end zone to give the Tigers the three point. Erie came away with a victory 25-22. Blake Barnett told BoCoPreps, ” Jobs not finished, we still have to go to CSU and play another one.”
After the game concluded you will usually have a handshake with your opponent. Right? Not this week, after the game was concluded Montrose went straight to the locker room. No handshake, no nothing.
Many people were curios of why this has happen. Montrose coach took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to talk about the situation. “Unfortunately, our best effort wasn’t quite good enough today and we fell just short of our goal. My staff and I have never been so proud of our boys. They played as hard as they possibly could all the way to the final whistle. Normally I wouldn’t address this, but I genuinely care about representing the community of Montrose, the high school, and the Montrose Football program in a positive way. Class is more than a handshake. We will always stand up and defend our kids 100% of the time and not everyone will understand or support the decision to head straight to the locker room after the game. proud of program and proud to be a Montrose RedHawks.”
He then went on to say that he is not going to be sharing the reason on social media. After he was the one who started the conversation. Many people are trying to reach out to him and figure out the reasoning behind leaving the field after the game.
An Erie representative, Justin Carpenter, went on to say, “You are correct. Not a lot of people will understand your decision to leave the field without shaking hands with you opponent. I have never seen this. Took attention away from a great game and tremendous heart and resolve from both groups of players. Be better coach.”
I think that this is terrible, no matter what happens you should shake the opponents hand. The amount of times that you don’t want too you still need to be the bigger person and shake the opponents hand. I think that the Montrose head coach also needs to address the reasoning why on twitter where he started the conversation. Many people want to know why this happen. And it needs to be shared with the public. It cannot be kept private.
It was a wild sequence and it is trending news story in the North Metro area. Many people are looking for a explanation of the scene and why this had happen.
The Tigers will take on a hot Palmer Ridge team who defeated a good Broomfield team 38-14. The game will be played Saturday at Canvas stadium at 11 a.m.

Just a correction…. Montrose never held the lead. Erie held the lead the entire game
Not the point of the story but just an observation.
