Jim Harbaugh is the heart and soul of the Michigan football team. But recently, he hasn’t been with the team because of a three game suspension. This 3 game suspension is because of an NCAA investigation of the Michigan Football Team Staff. This is because of a man named Connor Stalions. Stalions is, or was, an analyst for the University of Michigan until earlier this year. He was accused of stealing signs from opposing teams. Connor had been buying tickets to games of upcoming opponents. Apparently, stealing signs is allowed in the rules, but in-person scouting is not.
This all came to light after Central Michigan reportedly spotted a man resembling Stalions was spotted in the stands of the Central Michigan and Michigan State game. This is kind of funny if true, because why would Michigan even need to steal signs from Central Michigan. Because of Stalion’s sins, Harbaugh was suspended for three games. Harbaugh is the ultimate Michigan man; his father coached at Michigan, Harbaugh played quarterback at Michigan, and Harbaugh has been coaching at Michigan since 2015. Sheronne Moore has been named the intern coach since the Penn State game since Harbaugh’s suspension. Moore was very emotional after the 24-15 win over Penn State. Michigan dominated in expected fashion, only throwing the ball on offense 8 times. This was a bit of a surprise, as potential Heisman candidate JJ McCarthy is a focal point of Michigan’s offense. However, the offense ran through Michigan’s dominant backfield. One of the best running backs in the nation, Blake Corum, had 26 carries for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns. Other running back, Donovan Edwards, had 10 carries for 52 yards and another touchdown. Michigan improved to 10-0 on the season.
This weekend, Michigan had another Big 10 opponent in Maryland. It was a surprisingly close game. Michigan dominated the first half defensively, with a scoop and score touchdown from Derrick Moore in the first quarter. To end the quarter, the Michigan defense forced a safety that put Michigan up 16-3 at the end of the quarter. At half, Michigan was up 23-10, but the second half was a much different story. Michigan only scored one touchdown the second half, and failed the two point conversion. Maryland’s quarterback, Taulia Tagovailoa, led the Terps to two more touchdowns in the second half. He brought it to a one score game with a Billy Edwards Jr. touchdown, the third of the day, to make it 29-24 Michigan. The fourth quarter was a defensive battle, where the Michigan defense forced another safety towards the end of the game to call game. Michigan was able to escape with a win for the programs 1000th win.
This weekend, Michigan plays #1 ranked Ohio State to keep their playoff hopes alive as almost a touchdown favorite. The Michigan-Ohio State Rivalry is always an exciting game, and Michigan will certainly be missing Harbaugh.
