The Denver Broncos hosted the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 19th. The spread was the Denver Broncos -2.5 at the time of kickoff. As a man who dabbles in sports wagering, I was unsure of this spread, so ultimately I stayed away from the game in its entirety.
The Denver Broncos were rocking their throwback navy blue uniforms and it was a clean look as per usual.
On the very first drive of the game, the Vikings found themselves facing a 3rd & 1. Hockenson went under center and most probably expected a sneak behind the center, but Hockenson received the snap and pitched it to Quarterback Joshua Dobbs. Josh Dobbs ran and just as he approached the first down, he got leveled fumbling the ball and setting up the Broncos on the Vikings 30 yard line.
This only resulted in a Field Goal, but giving Broncos fans some good hope for what was to come. This hit not only gave the Broncos 3 points, but sent Dobbs into the tent for a little. But he came back and proceeded to go 11/13 for 126 yards and a touchdown.
The score at halftime was 10-9 with the Vikings up.
It was a slow third quarter to start, and that was until the Dobbs magic continued, on third and 8 from the Broncos ten yard line, He evaded two Broncos defenders and was in. the Vikings extended their lead to 8 points, 17-9.
The Vikings got the ball back and put the ball on the turf once again, and this time it was running back Alexander Mattison. The Broncos once again could just not get the offense going and had to settle for another field.
Even though many Broncos fans at this point were disappointed in the teams offense, as they have only kicked field goals up to this point, they were only down a surprising 5 points.
Then the Vikings would commit their 3rd turnover of the game, this time around with a Dobbs interception. The Broncos would have the ball on the 9 yard line and once again struggle to get into the end zone. MVP of the game Will Lutz would kick his 5th field of the game cutting the lead to 2.
The Broncos had the Vikings in a good spot to get the ball back, but the Vikings had a fake punt picking up 31 yards. This Vikings drive could have been the end for the Broncos, as it wasted a lot of time being 14 plays. But luckily resulted in only a field goal.
At the point the Broncos were losing 20-15. With limited time left, they needed to score a touchdown, which they haven’t done all game. The Broncos offense decided to wake up, they drove down the field and Russel Wilson cooked a 15 yard laser to Courtland Sutton in the back of the end zone, the Broncos would be unsuccessful on the two point attempt.
The Vikings got the ball with around a minute left, but they couldn’t put up any points.
Questionable if the Broncos should have really won the game, but at the end of the day, a win, is a win.
