The playoffs for 3A Colorado Football are underway and games start TONIGHT November 10th.
For the first game of the 3A playoffs are your very own 2 seeded Holy Family Tigers, taking on the number 15 seed Denver North Vikings at 6 o’clock PM. The tigers finished the season 9-1 with their one loss coming to a good Roosevelt team. The Denver North Vikings finished the season at 6-4, with losses to Northfield, Riverdale Ridge, Mead, and Frederick.
For the second game of the playoffs the 12 seeded Frederick Golden Eagles are heading south to play the 5 seed Lutheran Lions. Both of these teams are very good (even though the Holy Family Tigers beat them both) and I think this will be a good matchup. Frederick finished the season at 6-4, while the Lutheran Lions finished at a strong 8-2, with loses to Montrose, and us.
Another big game tonight is the 9 seeded Roosevelt Roughriders against the 8 seed Riverdale Ridge Ravens. Roosevelt finished at a strong 8-2 while dropping 2 games in the back half of their season to Resurrection Christian and Thompson Valley. The Ravens had a bounce back season and also finished 8-2 with Loses against Northfield and Mead. I think this will be a close game, but the 9 seeded Roughriders will come out on top.
For the 4th game of the night, is the 7-3 11 seeded Northfield Nighthawks. They head down south to play the 6 seed Pueblo Central Wildcats. I think that Northfield will be a tough team to beat in the playoffs and they will beat the Wildcats in their own home.
For the last game of Friday night is the 14 seed Discovery Canyon Thunder against the 3 seed Thompson Valley Eagles. The Thunder have a long drive from the Springs up to Loveland, and this will not help their already slim chances against a good Thompson Valley team.
Then we have an exciting Saturday starting off at 1 PM with the 7 seed Resurrection Christian hosting the 10 seed Lewis-Palmer. Both of these teams had good seasons. Res played a few out of state teams and had success, while Lewis-Palmer played a fairly easy schedule and dropped 2 games against the 4A number 1 seed Palmer Ridge, and the 3A 6 seed Pueblo Central Wildcats.
Another game tomorrow at 1, is the Mead Mavericks taking a long trip to Durango to face the Demons. Mead finished the year at .500, while Durango finished at 8-1. Hard to gauge how good the Demons are as they do play a few New Mexico teams, but I think the Demons should handle the Mavericks.
And for the last game of the first round of the competitive 3A bracket is the 5-5 Glenwood Springs Demons who just snuck into the playoffs are facing the number 1 seed undefeated Green Mountain Rams. Green Mountain is good, but has played an extremely easy schedule, and again I just don’t think that the Demons have enough.
