Fashion from 1960-1969
In the early 1960’s, fashion didn’t stray far from modesty and basic colors. But by the mid 60’s, fashion took a complete turn. Changes were made such as replacing muting colors with bright ones and wearing fun, vibrant prints such as tie-dye. London became the fashion center of the world, replacing Paris. Streetwear become more common, women wearing shorter skirts, trousers, and crop tops, in contrast the formal wear that was usually seen on during the day.
Fashion from 1970-1979
The 70’s were the first years where movies and music were the main influence of the fashion. The hippie style was born, containing floral prints, earthly tones, and fabrics such as suede and jean. Another popular trend was disco. This style was very flashy and flamboyant with a lot of neon and glitter. Wide jeans were popular in the 70’s and the women who wanted to show more skin wore slightly cropped, tight shirts and and short skirt
Fashion from 1980-1989
The hippie trend was left in the 70’s, but the vivid colors were there to stay. All past modesty was forgotten and designers branched out into a bold and bright look. The hair in the 80’s was teased and crimped, the bigger the hair the better. With the start of jazzercise, the unique workout clothes came about. Women wore tights or biker short with leotards layered on top. Colorful sneakers were worn with bunched up, chunky ankle socks.
Fashion from 1990-2000
The 90’s ditched the maximalist clothing, settling for a low maintenance style. A popular style was the grunge look, which showed off flannel, studded belts, torn jeans, and lots of eyeliner. The most popular fashion items for women were cropped shirts, flare jeans, overalls, big hoop earrings, fur coats, and chunky sneakers and heels. The 90’s introduced females to the rule, big jeans little top.
