In 2021 Ethan and Grayson Dolan completely disappeared from social media altogether. Prior to their disappearance, the twins had a strong social media presence. They had over 10 million subscribers on YouTube and would post weekly videos including pranks, challenges, and vlogs. They also had a presence on other social media accounts like Instagram. Twitter, and TikTok. The brothers quickly rose in fame in 2013 after they blew up on Vine and moved to YouTube after Vine had its downfall.
The Dolan Twins came to fame faster than anyone before. They quickly grew multimillion dollar networths with countless collaborations and partnerships. After the Dolan Twins disappeared from social media many wondered if they wanted to have a normal life? Wanted to experience a normal young adult life? If growing up in the spotlight wasn’t all they thought it was going to be?
As Grayson and Ethan matured they stated that they struggled to find video ideas as their videos were pointed toward a younger audience. In January 2021 on their podcast “Deeper” they said “We are not moving on from YouTube because we have a lack of appreciation for you guys.” They shared that Youtube might just have to be left in their teenage years.
Others have a theory that they left Youtube due to the passing of their father in January 2019. He battled cancer for two years which took a toll on their lives. They stated that they needed to state a break from social media because their privacy wasn’t being respected. “The best way you could support us during this tough time is to NOT show up at our father’s wake or funeral” Ethan said after fans were discussing showing up to their fathers funeral.
The twins promised that they were still be active on their Instagram accounts and on their podcast, but this promise didn’t last long. They both stopped posting altogether at the end of 2021 and little is known about them now.
After no social media presence since 2021 Ethan Dolan announced his engagement to his longterm girlfriend Kristina Alice on August 1st 2023. He posted on his Instagram account a photo of them with the caption “The most special day of my life.” This took fans by surprise after their long absense from the media.
