The Victorias Secret Fashion Show showcases their collection on around 150 Angels. The models are referred to as angels due to their angelic like beauty. This has been the case for Victoria’s Secret since 1995, when VS first took to the runway. The lingerie brand had always faced some criticism due to their lack of “variety” in models, but it wasn’t until 2019 that the comments took over. After the 2019 show, VS announced the end of their runway show. While most people found nothing wrong with the shows and found them very intriguing and entertaining, there were a number of people that demanded more attainable bodies on the runway. This year, VS announced their 2023 reunion tour where they brought back all the old angels, but the show did not go as expected.
Every year, the fashion industry becomes more inclusive. It started with carrying plus sizes in stores and has now expanded to runways. Plus size models are seen more and more every season and most people do not have a problem with this. However, when Victoria’s Secret announced their inclusive runway show, many people were not happy. The appeal of the legendary Victoria’s Secret Runway Show is the out of this world beauty that the models obtain. Angels are meant to be appreciated and the appeal is that their beauty is unachievable. This season, VS presented the runway with controversial models, that many do not consider to fit the term “angel”.
Some believe that this is a tactic for people to want to the old angels back. Prior to their cancelling, their were people who refused to support Victoria’s Secret unless they included more diversity. Since the production, viewers have voiced their disapproval of the show and are starting to demand the old angels. This years runway had no wings, no fantasy bra, and none of its usual magic.
