So far, Colorado has seen some great conditions this fall. The weather has been really nice for outdoor activities, there has been a great season for seeing the beautiful fall colors up in the mountains, and best of all, it hasn’t gotten too cold yet. With fall in full swing, ski resorts across Colorado have hosted events such as mountain biking competitions, concerts, and Oktoberfest celebrations. But even with all of these events, ski resorts have been planning for the upcoming ski season.
In the past few months, resorts such as Copper Mountain, A-Basin, and Telluride have fired up their snow cannons for the first time. Snow cannons are very helpful since they get that first level of snow down for the season and serve as a base for more snow to pile on top of. They’re also helpful since they allow ski resorts to produce the snow they need to open for the season without having to be completely reliant on natural weather cycles.
So what are some things to look forward to this winter if you enjoy the ski scene? Aspen Snowmass is slated to host the 28th annual Winter X Games competition at Buttermilk Mountain, where fans will be able to watch amateurs and professionals alike tear up the terrain parks in freestyle and big air competitions. Practice sessions for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy also begin this year, so be on the lookout at Copper Mountain as that is the US Ski Team’s home mountain.
Even if you’re not in the mountains seeing resorts prepare for what is going to be a great ski season, it’s not hard to see that winter will be upon us sooner than we might think. The weather is getting colder, days are getting shorter, and pretty soon, the state is going to get its first big storm. Personally, I couldn’t be more excited.
