September 6th was the first spirit day of the year for the Tigers! The seniors have been encouraged to wear their senior overalls or pants!
Senior overalls have been a tradition for many years throughout the country. Each year girls make their senior overalls or pants to wear for various events like football games, pep rallies, basketball games, and other school-related events. It is also meant to bring the seniors together as it is their last year together as a class. They are also commonly associated with homecoming week because of the homecoming football game where they are normally worn.
Traditionally the senior overalls are your school colors with creative decorations. Common things people put on their pants are their first and/or last names, sayings about senior year, graduating year, and other sayings related to their school such as “go tigers” and paw prints for tigers. Glitter, feathers, gems, paint, and iron-on patches are also commonly found on these pants. Everyone puts their own spin on them and makes them their own.
Senior overalls originated in Texas for girls to wear at the homecoming football game. Shortly after many more high schools adopted this tradition for their schools and began making senior overalls. It raises school spirit and helps people get involved in their schools. Ava Busot said “Making these overalls helped me and my friends make memories for senior year. It also brings everyone together in school spirit.” This year many of the seniors made their overalls together and have said that it has been a good time.
