In the game of golf, equipment is paramount when it comes to performance. Welcome to What’s in the Bag – Episode 1, with Rudiger Heitz.
Driver: Titleist TSR3, 9° Loft. Shaft: HZRDS RDX Smoke Green, 80 Grams X-Stiff.
Heitz sees the driver as one of the main strengths of his game, saying, “When I’m hitting (my driver) good I gain an advantage on everyone I’m playing against. My ability to ‘nuke it’ off the tee and have shorter yardages into otherwise long holes is super important for me to score well.”
4 Wood: Titleist TSR3, 16.5° Loft. Shaft: Tensai Blue K-Series, 70 Grams X-Stiff.
7 Wood: Titleist TSR2, 21° Loft. Shaft: Ventus Blue 9x, 94.5 Grams X-Stiff.
The 7 Wood is a club that has become more popular in just the past few years among star players at all levels. It is known for launching the ball high and far, replacing what would otherwise be a Hybrid or Utility Iron.
Irons: Mizuno Pro 223 (4i), Mizuno Pro 221 (5i-9i). Shafts: KBS Tour C-Taper, 130 Grams X-Stiff.
Heitz’ choice to game Mizuno Irons originally was inspired by his father Uli, a former professional golfer himself.
Wedges: Titleist Vokey SM9 (46°, 50°, 56°, 60°). Shafts: KBS Tour C-Taper, 120 Grams X-Stiff.
Putter: 2008 Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2. 33″ Length, Standard Loft and Lie.
With regards to his putter, Rudi said, “Putting is interesting because there’s no universal best putter with the best technology — it’s all feel”. This is shown by Heitz as he chooses to game a putter from 2008 this season: “My putter at address is a little more simplistic than some of the newer models, which is something I have grown to like and it is something that gives me confidence”. He continued, “My gear is a part of my game that I need to trust every time I go out and play”. He continued, “With my current setup, I always feel confident over the ball. That confidence allows me to be comfortable under pressure and perform how I expect to”.
Rudi will lead the Tigers into a League Tournament on Thursday August 31st at Indian Peaks Golf Course in Lafayette.
